How to Enter Opportunities in NXT Web View
Below are steps for entering an Opportunity on an NXT constituent record and linking the Opportunity to a realized gift record.
Entering an Opportunity in NXT
-
From the constituent's record, select Add opportunity under Opportunities or on their full list of opportunities.
To help group the opportunity for later analysis, in the Purpose field, choose the reason to ask the constituent for the gift. Each audience will have their own Opportunity Purposes. If you're entering an Opportunity for the upcoming NY Gala please select '2025 NY Gala-Active Proposal'.
-
Enter a name to identify the opportunity.
-
In the Status field, choose the opportunity's current stage in the solicitation process. Orbis's Opportunity statuses are listed below. Numbers prefix the wording for sorting ability.
1 Planned: Everyone entered in RE where we either have a strategy to solicit or a potential grant to apply for. General timing in this status: 3 to 18 months.
2 Submitted: Either the solicitation/“ask” has been made and we are awaiting a response from the prospect, or the grant has been applied for and we are awaiting a response. General timing in this status: 30 to 90 days.
3 Funded/Granted: Either the gift has been received or the grant has been awarded. The gift or grant has been entered into Raiser’s Edge and linked to the proposal.
4 Declined: Either the prospect said “no” to the ask or the grant we applied for has been rejected. A new strategy may or may not be developed.
5 Withdrawn: The proposal was withdrawn for internal reasons and the ask was never made.

-
In the Deadline field, enter when you want to receive the gift. Please note that if the deadline passes, don't worry! The program won't automatically change the opportunity's status.
-
Under Funding, enter the dates and amounts of the gifts you want, anticipate, and receive from the opportunity.
Under Details, select the intended uses for gifts given in response to the opportunity. Below is another example for a NY Gala Opportunity.
-
In the Assign to field, search for and select who will manage the opportunity.
Tip: If you currently manage the constituent, the opportunity is automatically assigned to you. To quickly assign it to someone else, select them from the suggested fundraisers next to Assign to.
Tip: To credit a fundraiser for giving that results from their effort, edit the opportunity after you receive its gifts.
-
In the Gift type field, select how you expect to receive giving, such as recurring commitments or gifts-in-kind.
-
In the Likelihood field, select how confident you are that giving will result from the opportunity.
Select Save.
Linking a Gift to an Opportunity
Once a donor has made a gift in response to an Opportunity, it is critical that we link the gift record to the Opportunity. Please follow the steps below to connect realized gifts to Opportunity records.
-
From a gift record, under Opportunities, select Edit.
Select the opportunities to link to the gift record or select Add opportunity to add an opportunity to link to the gift. The constituent on the gift record and their opportunities appear by default.
-
To link the gift to another constituent’s opportunities, select Apply to other constituent.
-
Enter the amount to apply to the opportunity. Please note that applied opportunities may not exceed the gift amount.
-
Select Save.
